Fly Fishing for Members

Known as the fly fishing capital of South Africa, Dullstroom features an array of fully-stocked dams and lakes, ideal for a range of anglers; from novices to experienced professionals.

Fish along 6km of the Lunsklip River, or in the fourteen weirs and ten dams offering a range of easy to challenging conditions. Some dams are quite remote and others nearer the cottages. Tubes can be used in the larger dams. Santa encourages a catch and release policy and a fishing book is provided in each cottage to record fish kept, caught and released. This assists the Management to optimise regular stocking.

Walking & Hiking

Choose from a wide range of both gentle and more strenuous walks and hikes, all offering fabulous vistas across the valleys; walk in any direction from the front door of all the cottages or drive to a specific area and walk from there. Trails are not marked but you can easily follow cattle trails or vehicle tracks or just follow your nose, using the cattle gates to move from one field to another.

Please be careful to close any gates and to keep dogs on a leash if cattle are nearby. Look out for the abundant wild flowers, with over 200 species in the area including orchids, pelargoniums, wahlenbergias and tree ferns.

Mountain Biking

Dullstroom is known for its high altitude training and offers some challenging rides both on the property and in the nearby area. Trails are marked on the Google Earth map accessible on the members.

Bird Watching

The greater Dullstroom area is a “Birders Paradise” and is home to over 300 species including three species of the endangered South African Crane. Bird lists are available in all the cottages.

Dullstroom Village

The village is just 12 km from the Santa Estate turn off, so easily accessible for a visit to stroll around the many shops, enjoy lunch or dinner in the excellent restaurants or watch an exciting rugby match in one of the friendly pubs.
