Santa was established as a trout fishing syndicate as early as the 1940s, making it one of the oldest syndicates in the Dullstroom area. The Santa Fly Fishing Syndicate continues to operate, but activities on The Estate have diversified over the years. Our cottages can now be booked on an ad hoc basis, with fishing available on a daily rod rate basis.

In addition to its fishing waters and accommodation, Santa operates as a working cattle farm, with a herd of over 400 cattle, of mixed Nguni, Angus, and Limousine heritage. The vastness of The Estate and its diverse habitats, make Santa a wonderful destination for outdoor enthusiasts, including hikers, mountain bikers, birders, botanists, etc.

Sub-divided by the Lunsklip River, and dotted with 13 large, well-stocked dams, Santa remains a superb fishing destination.

Accommodation at Santa consists of 4 cosy, comfortably equipped, stone-walled cottages. Each self-catering and serviced cottage has a lounge with a fireplace, a dining room, and a well-equipped kitchen. Heaters in the bedrooms and electric blankets ensure you stay snug during Dullstroom’s bracing winter nights.

Enjoy the verandas and braai facilities on summer days. The cottages are all situated on different parts of The Estate, offering you complete privacy.

Members of the Santa Fly Fishing Syndicate have access to 6kms of the Lunsklip River, and an extensive network of 14 weirs, 13 dams, and various natural streams, all of which provide fishing opportunities for both the highly skilled fisherman, and the enthusiastic novice.

There are different syndicate options available, to suit your needs and budget. The “syndicate season” runs from the first of January every year until the end of December. Syndicate members are entitled to between 2 and 5 visits a season, depending on their membership option, with discounts offered on the 4- and 5-week options. Each option (syndicate “week”) runs from Thursday to Tuesday. Syndicate members have first option on the cottage bookings. During December and January, members are requested to specify which weekends they want over the next season. Each member is guaranteed one long weekend booking per year.

Thereafter, Lunsklip Lodge and The Glen are marketed to the public at large. Santa Lodge and Cascades Cottage are retained for members’ exclusive use. For Syndicate members firewood is provided free of charge and there is no additional rod rate, however there is an additional charge for servicing the cottage.

Syndicate members are welcome to book additional ad hoc weekends, at a discounted syndicate rate.
